A Partnership to Inspire Wellness

Importance of Aftercare in Surgery

It is widely recognized that aftercare following a surgical procedure is just as crucial as the surgery itself. However, it is concerning that many surgeons leave the choice of aftercare solely to the patient. This approach can leave patients feeling abandoned and apprehensive about their recovery process.

When patients are tasked with finding their own aftercare specialists, there is a risk of ending up in the hands of practitioners who may not have the specific training required for procedures like manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) and postoperative care. This gap in coordinated aftercare can hinder the patient's overall healing journey and lead to complications that could have been prevented with proper guidance and support.

In order to ensure optimal outcomes and provide patients with the support they need post-surgery, it is imperative for medical professionals to take an active role in guiding patients towards qualified aftercare specialists. Collaborating with skilled practitioners who specialize in MLD and postoperative care can significantly enhance the recovery process and instill confidence in patients that they are receiving the best possible care.

By acknowledging the significance of aftercare and taking proactive steps to assist patients in securing appropriate support, healthcare providers can help alleviate concerns, promote smoother recoveries, and ultimately enhance the overall patient experience.

MassageNetics Treatment Plan

For our post-surgery program, we have devised a comprehensive treatment plan to aid our patients in their recovery journey. The treatment plan is intricately structured across four weeks, each phase tailored to meet the unique needs of the individual depending on their type of surgery.

Week 1:

  • 5 Treatments: In the first week post-surgery, patients will undergo five treatments specially customized to their surgery type. These initial sessions are crucial in laying a strong foundation for the recovery process. Treatments include Manual Lymphatic Therapy and Red Light Therapy.

Week 2

  • 3 Treatments: Moving into the second week, patients will receive three treatments designed to build upon the progress made in the previous week and support their healing process. (Supplements are available for purchase which include Bromelain and Arnica.)

Week 3

  • 2 Treatments: As we transition into the third week, patients will undergo two targeted treatments to further enhance their recovery and promote healing. May include KT Taping for Edema and Fibrosis.)

Week 4

  • 1 Treatment: In the final week of this phase, patients will have one treatment session aimed at maintaining the progress achieved throughout the previous weeks and ensuring a smooth transition into the next phase of their rehabilitation.

At MassageNetics, we understand that each individual's journey is unique, and our treatments are adaptable to accommodate patients in various positions—be it lying down, sitting, or standing. Our goal is to provide personalized care that aligns with the specific needs of our patients, promoting optimal recovery and well-being.

Moving Forward

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there has been a significant increase in procedures over the past decade, with an average rise of 300% to 500%. Particularly, the most sought-after procedures include breast surgeries, specifically breast lift (560%) and breast augmentation (533%). This surge in procedures has also led to a growing number of plastic surgeons entering the field, subsequently reducing the patient-to-surgeon ratio. As a result, prioritizing patient care and customer service has become vital in enhancing the overall surgical experience and gaining a competitive edge. Introducing Post-operative MLD Therapy as part of a surgeon’s comprehensive offerings is an effective strategy for sustained growth and maintaining a robust market share advantage.

Medical Massage

Therapy for Acute and Chronic Pain

Specialized Medical Massage can address the soft-tissue components of injury and can help re-balance muscles, nerve receptors, and local circulation to improve the symptoms of many musculoskeletal disorders.

Medical Massage can be a stand-alone therapy, but is helpful in conjunction with physical therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, or other complementary therapies.

Injury:

Repetitive stress disorder (RSD), which is caused by the repetition of certain actions, can result in enduring discomfort and strain. The symptoms associated with RSD tend to accumulate gradually, ultimately affecting one's ability to carry out work-related tasks.

We also help with sudden injuries that affect our bodies in a different way and can be very upsetting. One minute a person was healthy and doing their job, and the next, they were hurt. If someone can't work because of their injury, the time off might be a chance to heal. But too much time off could lead to feeling down, frustrated, and anxious.

Physicians are increasingly suggesting massage therapy to help patients recover from injury. Massage therapy soothes an overactive nervous system, loosens tight muscles, relieves painful trigger points, improves flexibility in joints, reduces stress and anxiety, and lessens bruising and swelling.

In addition to massage modalities, we can incorporate:  ice to reduce inflammation, stretching, deep moist heat to increase circulation and calm tense muscles, cupping to lift the tissue and reduce adhesions, lymphatic drainage to reduce swelling or bruising, or vibrational massage to control pain. Each session is tailored to our client’s individual needs and helps them feel better with each passing day.

Whatever a client’s specific needs, our goal is to listen well and address their complaints efficiently and effectively with sensitivity and expertise. We stay in communication with healthcare providers, as needed, to keep them updated on the progress of treatment.
